Building Maintenance/Custodian

We are looking for a Building Maintenance/Custodian to join our client’s team in Peterborough. This position is full-time (day shift) and will become permanent for the right candidate.

What you need:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a custodial and maintenance or similar role
  • Working knowledge of industrial vacuum, heating, cooling, ventilation, and plumbing systems
  • Able to properly and safely operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment (ex. snowblower)
  • Valid G class driver’s licence and access to reliable vehicle
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are an asset
  • Strong customer service skills, positive attitude
  • Able to multi-task and establish priorities
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Able to push/pull/carry/lift heavy loads of approximately 50 pounds
  • Able to work in all weather conditions

Due to the nature of the position, applicants will be asked if they have ever been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted.

What you will be doing:

  • Perform sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming of residential apartment building floors and stairs
  • Perform cleaning and disinfecting of common areas and vacant apartments
  • Perform adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, and plumbing systems; contact tradespersons for major repairs when required
  • Perform other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair
  • Assist various trades and others in their work
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual safety and security inspections and tend to matters found to be deficient, ensuring that any required maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner
  • Perform general grounds keeping duties such as landscaping, clearing snow and ice from building entrances and walkways, keeping main building entrances and grounds clean, and taking care of garbage and recycling
  • Assist with maintaining adequate cleaning and other supplies for the properties
  • Assist with maintaining maintenance related records
  • May show apartments to prospective tenants
  • Use personal vehicle as needed between properties
  • Participate in staff meetings

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm
Candidate may be required to work overtime/weekend/on-call duty
