How to Succeed at an Ontario Job Fair
Bring Hard Copies of Your Resume
Even in 2026, many recruiters at job fairs prefer a physical resume they can write notes on. Bring at least 10–15 copies in a clean folder.
Dress for the Job You Want
If you are applying for a warehouse role, “Business Casual” (clean shirt and pants) is perfect. You don’t need a suit, but avoid sweatpants or gym wear. First impressions matter.
Have a "30-Second Pitch" Ready
When you approach a booth, don’t just ask “What are you hiring for?” Instead, say: “Hi, I’m [Name]. I have 2 years of forklift experience and I’m looking for a full-time role in Mississauga.” This makes the recruiter’s job easy.
Come Prepared with a Strategy
Most job fairs release a list of exhibitors in advance. Don’t just wander aimlessly. Pick the top 5 companies you want to work for and visit them first while your energy is high. Research what they do beforehand so you can ask smart questions like, “I saw you’re expanding your Mississauga warehouse—are you hiring for that team?”
Watch Out for "Pay-to-Play" Scams
A legitimate employer or recruiter will never ask you for money to apply for a job or “secure” an interview. If a booth asks for an upfront fee for training materials or a background check before hiring you, walk away. Trusted agencies like GHRC Staffing never charge candidates.
