When to Use an Employer of Record

Becoming an Employer of Record is the fastest way to expand your team without expanding your HR department. This model is distinct from standard staffing because you find the candidate, but we become their legal employer. It is the ideal solution if:

  • You Are Testing a New Role: You want to hire a worker for a 6-month trial or project but aren’t ready to commit to permanent headcount or severance risks.
  • You Are Hiring Remotely: You are an Ontario company hiring a remote worker in another province (e.g., Alberta or BC) and don’t want to register for WCB/WSIB and tax accounts in that jurisdiction.
  • You Have a “Hiring Freeze”: Your department has OpEx budget for contractors but is frozen on permanent hires. We put them on our payroll so you can get the work done.
  • You Want to Avoid Liability: You want to insulate your company from potential wrongful dismissal suits, EI claims, and complex employment standards compliance.

We Manage the Risk

We handle the payroll, workers' compensation board remittances (WSIB, etc.), T4s, and ROEs. If the contract ends, we handle the termination and offboarding legally and respectfully.

In standard staffing, we recruit the candidate for you. In EOR, you have already found the candidate, and we simply employ them on your behalf. Because you did the recruiting work, EOR markup can be lower than markups for our staffing solutions.

You do. You retain full control over their day-to-day activities, goals, and schedule. We only handle the HR, payroll, and legal compliance.

Yes. This is a primary use for EOR. If you are an Ontario company hiring someone living in BC or Alberta, we handle the specific provincial tax deductions and Workers’ Compensation (WCB) registration for that province.

Absolutely. Many clients use EOR on a trial or probation period. You can transfer the employee to your own payroll at any time without conversion fees (terms apply).

We charge a simple markup on the employee’s hourly wage or salary to cover the mandatory burden (CPP, EI, WSIB, Vacation Pay) plus our administration fee. You receive one consolidated invoice per pay period.
