Job description:

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our client’s manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will operate and program CNC equipment, including CNC lathes and milling machines, to produce precision parts in accordance with engineering specifications. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency in CNC programming, and the ability to interpret complex blueprints. The CNC Machinist will play a vital part in ensuring high-quality production while adhering to safety and efficiency standards. This position is a 2-3 month contract on the day shift.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and sample parts to determine specifications for sequence of operations, tools and materials required for determined outcome.
  • Set up, operate and program CNC machines such as CNC lathes and milling machines.
  • Set up, operate and program EMD wire machinery as required.
  • Perform precise measurements using calipers, micrometers, and other hand tools to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Adjust machine parameters and troubleshoot issues during machining processes to maintain quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of machining operations and inspection results.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on CNC equipment and ensure machines are clean and properly calibrated.
  • Assist with tooling changes, machine setups, and minor repairs as needed.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience of GD & T (Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning) as well as 3D Cad software such as Key Creator and Mastercam.
  • Follow safety protocols including proper use of power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, and forklift operation when required.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives by optimizing machining processes for efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience (8+ years) operating CNC machinery such as CNC lathes and milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Current Certification of Qualification for Machinist an asset.
  • Experience working in CNC/EDM programming and operation (minimum 1 year).
  • Mechanical knowledge with the ability to read blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and troubleshooting machining issues.
  • Experience with machining tools including calipers, power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, and forklifts is preferred.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and assembly processes is a plus.
  • Good understanding of presses and how they affect die performance and part quality.
